  1. Rick Said,

    Jonny,

Totally cool how you actually showed your results, seriously, I have yet to see another “guru” show traffic and numbers. Can you do another video after you get the results from your ezine solo ads?

I’m really curious to see how all that goes. I know I shouldn’t expect HUGE returns on stuff like that
but do you have a ballpark on what to look for? Any criteria us newbies and mid-levels should know about?

Great stuff! Seriously, thanks for this. (And I LOVE the fact you don’t provide links to the sites you said were “Pure Shit”)

Laughing my ass off at that whole “anti-social” thing you said at the end!

    Thanks again

    Rick

  2. JonnyAndrews Said,

Rick, OMG I JUST sent that video… you made that post so fast it was like you were WAITING for it! Cool.

Anyway, glad you like the info.

    Question #1: Results…

I have no idea. I tested about 15 - 20 different ezines and very few of them had any clicks at all. (Hence there being no mention of them)

The reason I went with any that had even low CTR was because CTR is a sign of life. Life means people are interested and excited.

While I have no verifiable data to back up my opinions here are the expectations I bring to the table when using unknown result paid traffic:

    1% Open Rate
    1% Click-Through
    X% Optin
    X% Sales

1% is sooooo crap to get anything less should land the person in prison or something.

I always set my expectations there with the “external traffic sources” because I know what my numbers are.
Nothing is perfect but I do take the stance of “All things being equal”

    Does that make sense?

Here’s how it all SHOULD look in a perfect world:

Ezine Publisher: Sports a list of 3,000,000
1% of them will open the email = 30,000 opens
1% of them will click through to my page = 300
40% will Opt in (based on my personal numbers) = 120 new subscribers
7% will buy my stuff (based on tracking numbers) = 8 sales

If it costs me $200 to run the ad and these numbers hold true then I’ll sell about $616 worth of stuff.

    Cost = $200
    Profit = $616
    My Net $416

Moral of the story: $200 is money well spent in this case.

In the case studies you saw up there I used ezines with vastly smaller subscriber bases than 3mill. I believe between the 2 of them there were around 30,000 total.

All in all the total traffic was crap BUT the results were huge…

WHY? Because it means you can pretty much pay for Joint Venture style traffic at your leisure.

I’ll be playing with more of these things from here on out. But as you can see, it’s pretty affordable all around if you track your clicks and know where your people are coming from.

    Does that help?

    Jonny

  3. jose Said,

    Jonny,
Thanks for the video! I’ve been on the fence about getting a subscription to Directory of Ezine and now I am at least one step closer to actually going and getting one. I do have a couple of questions:

In your video you mention AdBlast The World. Would it be worth it to get there basic subscription? For me, it all falls back to getting those opt-ins. Would you say you’ve been successful using them to increase your opt-ins and was it gradual or was there a sudden spike?
I don’t have my own product yet, would ABTW be useful in promoting affiliate products?

    Thanks

    Jose

  4. corey lewis Said,

    hey jonny,

you are not allowed to use co-reg leads with aweber. as per their TOS. http://www.aweber.com/service-agreement.htm you cannot import “purcahsed” leads…including co-reg…that’s why list builder pro says that…of course you can set things up so that co-reg leads are are dropped into your aweber account..but if they find out your awber account will get cancelled.

I noticed a lot of your traffic sources didn’t turn out so good…thanks for showing us what NOT to bother with…drop me a line if you wanna do an interview with me about the traffic sources i used in august to drive 33,717 unique visitors and put 3k new subscribers on my list.

  5. Jonny Said,

Great questions, let me try to hit them both:

    Jose,

Would it be worth it to get the basic subscription to AdBlastTheWorld?

Yes… IF you use them correctly.

Coreg is a very odd animal and that’s why I only mention them in passing. You’re going to see a video coming up where I show you how to use them and everything involved in the process. (Yes, it’s a process!)

While you do not need your own product as affiliate marketing works just fine with these guys you DO need to have your own website (and this will get into what Corey asked)

You DO NOT import them into your autoresponder account… ever.

Corey, you have a very good point.

This is where people get mixed up on the idea of Coreg.

What you’ll find in most coreg situations is a large list of people who may or may not like you and/or your stuff. They have not opted into your list yet, and because of that they’re really not your subscribers.

So if you can’t import them into your autoresponder account and you can’t really hard sell them anything… what the hell do you do with them?

Like I said, you’ll be getting a video soon with more info but for now I’ll give you the basics:

You use a 3rd party mailing system and send them all an “invite” to your list.

I like to hit them 4 times with a “free ethical” bribe to join my double optin list (double optin here is VITAL)

Under normal circumstances you DO NOT want to use “bulk mailing” software as it’s both totally crap as well as extremely expensive and can get your ass shut down. There are more problems than I can even talk about with combining bulk mailers with CoReg leads.

But there is a solution I’ve found to work beautifully. You need to use a service like ABTW with an online mailing house. It’s like a big, fat autoresponder company who specializes in mailing coreg lists.

Remember: Never sell them directly… you want to send an email inviting them to click a link where they can get cool, free stuff.

Once they get to your page you want to have a video there giving them a “Taste” of the cool, free stuff… (YouTube works just fine)

Once they watch the video you ask them to enter their name and email so they can get more cool, free stuff. (about 4 emails worth spaced over a week period)

The optin process MUST be double optin to prevent any complaints from shutting you down.

Autoresponder companies don’t care where the optins come from so long as they’re really freaking optins!

By using coreg leads in this way you’re 100% above board and everybody on your list asked to be there.

When you use leads like this and you use them consistently you’ll be totally excited with the results you get.

Like I said, I got about 200 double optin subscribers out of 1 ABTW mailing. (I did this from THEIR servers with the premium package) Those are great numbers.

You can do the same thing with the basic package, but you’ll have to upload your new leads daily to a 3rd party bulk mailing system and direct everybody to a double optin squeeze page.

    Hope that makes sense!

    Jonny

  6. corey lewis Said,

alls i’m saying is that if you try to use co-reg leads with aweber, and they find out…your account is cancelled..end of story. that’s why listbuildingpro wont let you drop your leads into an aweber form, and that’s why other co-reg services like list-opt wont let you do it either. again it’s one of those things where you can set it up and it may ‘work’ but i have seen people get their accounts shut down for it.

I learned a lot about co-reg durring the whole “pipeline profits” craze when everyone was talking about it and trying it…and failing :)

I ended up getting an autoresponder account with icontact (since they were THE preferred mailing list provider by the pipe line guys) and I set up a campaign with listbuilderpro, and list-opt…i let them go for about a month…got many thousands of ’subscribers’ but very few clicks…like less than 1% and never made any sales…so i decided to just shut it all down and try other (more effective) traffic sources.

  7. Gary Huynh Said,

    Hey Jonny,

I love your videos man. They’re so full of personality and usable information.

You say you tried 15-20 ezines and they were not worth mentioning. Maybe it’s
a good idea to mention them so that people know who not to try.

    Thanks,
    Gary

  8. Jonny Said,

    Corey,

I hear you man! It’s the problem I’d say just shy of 99.999% of online marketers have… all sales all the time. I’d be willing to put money the major reasons people failed with coreg is because they were

#1: Hard selling from start to finish
#2: Importing them directly into an autoresponder like aweber and just getting flushed
#3: Buying totally crap leads. (There’s a whole freaking science with this one!)

ListBuilderPro is a total joke. When I first tried them I was getting like 50 new “leads” per day… Zero clicks.

(Using their autoresponder set to single optin)

I then changed it to double optin along with filtering out all generic domains like Hotmail/Yahoo.

Now I’m lucky to get 1 new lead per day.

But… I’m 100% sure that person is real and alive! I’m just not sure if that person is a buyer.

Either way, zero sales, close to zero clicks. A total waste of money.

The other thing to keep in mind is I’m using a sequence that’s been having a 23% open rate and a 15 - 19% CTR… why would it drop to zero?

I contacted their customer support on this one and the only response they could give me was “Try a new campaign”.

It the so called leads they send me are in the “biz op” market and the people I service are in the “biz op” market… why the hell would the people from their version of the “biz op” market be so much different than mine?

The only logical explanation is their service, at least for the “biz op” market is not really quality.

Jonny Andrews Patented Traffic Verdict: ListBuilderPro (for the “biz op” market) is a total waste of time.

  9. Jonny Said,

    Gary,

You have a great point… BUT… I can’t really do that and keep any friends in the industry. There’s a fine line between being able to tell people what DOES work vs. being able to tell people what DOES NOT work.

The reason for that is because many people have different experiences.

Like Corey up there… he didn’t have much luck with Coreg. I did. Same animal different outcome.

Some things did not work FOR ME. They may for you. Even ListBuilderPro might be a good idea for somebody.

One thing I know works but takes so much time to set up I flushed it was CraigsList Traffic. HUGE market there… BUT… well, I’ll do a video on it and show you. Lots involved.

I got about 75% of the way through setting up a system and had to shut it all down. It didn’t fit into my primary business model enough to justify the expense/effort. BUT… if I was selling low cost ebooks to people it would work great.

I have no problem tossing out a few “Bad apples” that didn’t work for me but at the same time I welcome alternative points of view. If, however, I put everything out there that blew up in my face… not only would that video have been over 39 hours, I wouldn’t have any friends left!

So let’s just say this: If it sucked I MIGHT talk about it… but more than likely I’ll follow my mom’s advice:

“If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all”

Seriously. She told me that last night.

    Jonny

  10. lee Said,

fun ramble with real business info to chomp . like your dead cats email and the tony robbins pimp story ,. keep with the real man . cheers

  11. Jenny Said,

OMG I loved that video! Thank you so much for the help on what NOT to do! I was actually thinking of joining LBP because it has all those big name people on it. I was thinking “if it’s good enough for them…”

So you’re saying it might work in other niches besides the “Biz Op” niche? That’s really cool of you to tell people what didn’t work for you and what did. It sort of makes sense now how all those gurus keep saying “EXPLODE YOUR TRAFFIC”… it’s all a bunch of small things hooked together.

I like how you made this all very real to me. It looks like from what you’re saying I could build a nice list pretty quick just by using ezine solo ads and offering high-quality info. Sounds perfect and way more affordable than PPC. (And yes, I did get your “Make Free Money With Cheap PPC” inside MSS Elite. Very cool stuff!

    Thanks again for all this

  12. Steve Shaw Said,

    Hey Jonny,
This is totally amazing, all this talk about ListBuilderPro, I had my finger on the order button for that program yesterday, and then I thought, “let me google it first”. I was able to get enough negative feedback to hold off.
It’s good to hear you validate my decision.
By the By, the other day I ordered your Warrior Special Offer for building a list quick and will be looking at it tonight. I know it will be good.
    Steve Shaw (hyperwarrior.com)

  13. Jonny Said,

    Steve,

Glad I could help! But like I said in one of these posts here… you’ve got to take my info with a grain of salt. Just because something sucked hard-core for me does not mean it’s going to suck for you… maybe…

I just got frustrated because of the low, low results. I do have a feeling using this system OUTSIDE the “Make Money” market could be effective. You have have to keep in mind anyone in this particular niche is very jaded and will frequently join these offers with “bulk” email accounts.

But yea, for my money I’ll be using other services.

    Jonny
